Kitchen blinds add a lot of functionality to your home. Usually the kitchen isn’t the best place for very elaborate window treatments because all of the smells and grease that comes from cooking. It can even be a fire hazard. This is where blinds can really come into play. That doesn’t mean that it has to be boring or basic. Here are a few tips for decorating with kitchen blinds.
Choose blinds to match your cabinet color. If you can’t afford high-end blinds then you probably want your window treatments to blend in. This is important because not everything in your room has to be a focal point. In fact it all shouldn’t be a focal point. Instead you should spend money on items that you really love such as a granite countertop. Then you can save money with the rest of your decor. You can always upgrade the accessories such as the curtains or window treatments later on. You can find kitchen blinds made out of wood or metal. You’ll also want to make sure that they match the casing and molding around the windows so that the inexpensive blinds don’t stand out too much.
You can add fabric to kitchen blinds. You can get a blind tape that is a ribbon that runs down each strand of the blind. This is an opportunity to bring in color and get a unique look to your window treatment. Another option to add fabric to kitchen blinds would be creating a cornice box. This is just uses a little bit of fabric so it’s great if you still want a practical treatment. At the same time it will save you a lot of money because you won’t be using several yards of fabric. Plus, it’s easy to recover when you want a totally new look. Then the blinds can stay the same and you can easily change out your entire decor in your kitchen just by changing out a few pieces of fabric. This also adds character to your kitchen blinds and softens the very streamlined effect of plain blinds. You can also match the wood tones to your work area depending on if you have a small desk, mahogany desk, black desk, cheap desk, or a classic desk which is a popular spot to pay bills.
Consider shutters or wood blinds. This has almost a colonial effect. Plantation shutters are often painted a bright white. This can work beautifully with white appliances and cabinets. This adds a little bit of texture to the room and you can still have an all white kitchen that is very interesting. Plus, it will be pretty easy to clean. One thing about plantation shutters is that it won’t let in as much light in your space is you might like.
