Finding the Right Curtain Styles

Curtains styles can really add a lot of character to your room. You won’t even have to change out your furniture or do a complete remodel. Just keep the same small desk, mahogany desk, black desk, cheap desk, or a classic desk that you already own. This is an easy way for a quick and inexpensive update that can totally transform your space. Depending on the style of curtain you can create a theme or mood. Here are a few of the different kinds of window treatments.

Pleated curtains or drapes are quite formal. These are what you might remember from your mother’s house. They often are lined. This can be quite expensive. However, it can also be very utilitarian simply because then all the windows will match from the outside of your house. You can make this more modern just by going with a solid colored fabric instead of the traditional floral or stripe print that you might remember from your parents house. It’s important to do your own take on your decor especially when your decorating with a classic design style simply because you want to get a look that works for your lifestyle and also with your furniture.

Modern curtains styles tend to have a lot of stainless steel accents. They also utilize unique hanging systems. You may be able to find a wire and clip system. This is a lot different from a traditional curtain rod and can be a lot sleeker. Another option would be to find grommets. This is when the hardware has already been built into a curtain. In this case you need to be sure that your curtain rod does match the grommets and that you find grommets that will work with all the other stainless steel or oil rubbed bronze pieces in your space.

Tab top panels were quite popular a decade or so ago. You’ll often still find these at discount department stores. These curtains can almost have a country feeling to them. They are quite casual and are usually made from a cotton fabric. The disadvantages to these are that they can often look limp or unkempt.

If you don’t know what curtain style you want then explore all of your options. You might want to mix and match so you get the best of all the worlds. An easy way to do this is with a clip system. This is where you sew or clip rings on your curtains. These are quite easy to open and close. Plus it allows you to make your own curtains without doing a lot of work. You can even just turn a lot of flat fabric surfaces into curtains quite easily for a one-of-a-kind look.

The style of curtain that you choose should really match the rest of your room. Of course you would want to work within a color palette but there are also a lot of different considerations. You want it to match your furniture and the architectural details in your space and whether they are casual or formal. You also need to consider the hardware and hanging systems.
